How to Resolve - Downloads Files Not Saving?

Downloads Files Not Saving

OK now I have read alot of forums on this problem most of them are dead, but none of them have even come close to solving this problem.
When I download a file it goes through the download shows up for a matter of seconds then is gone, Searching does not find it, Restoring the system does not fix it, changing the IE security settings dont help, Creating a new user account dont fix it, trying
to download to a external hard drive dont work either.
Now if someone could please come up with a desent fix other then doing a complete reinstall of my OS that would be great.
Even better wold be a OS that really works and dont get shiped out with 100 different
bugs in it.

Hi,

I realize you have done many of these however please do them in this order as the process is important in
solving the issue.
Please do not skip a step and do not use other accounts you created before other than
your usual one.

Try this - use the Hidden Admin Account to lower your account to user (to lowest level) APPLY/OK

then go back and reset it to Admin APPLY/OK - this helps clear corruption.
Do this a few times.
Then fix the password in your normal account.

Make another Admin Account with your password and use it to fix the others when needed.
(just to

repair with, not to use as regular account, a safety valve) Always keep a spare ADMIN account.

DO NOT LEAVE THE HAA ENABLED OR USE IT DAILY.
If it corrupts you are toast!

You can run the Hidden Admin Account command from the Command Prompt from here if needed
(Or Safe Mode).

Make another account with your same password - set it to ADMIN Level - REBOOT (do not just logoff) and
logon to that account - can you download using it? (make two ADMIN accounts - one in case you have to
migrate to it and another to test and fix).

Try your downloads in the new account.

If needed later this is process to fix a corrupted account or migrate to a new one.
(This one you can skip for now.)

Then logon to the old account and try this :

Start - type this in Search Box ->  COMMAND   find at top and RIGHT CLICK  -  RUN AS ADMIN

Enter this at the prompt - sfc /scannow

Run checkdisk - schedule it to run at next start and then Apply OK your way out then restart.

Then reset IE

What antivirus/antispyware/security product do you have on machine? Include any you have EVER has on this
machines including those you uninstalled (they leave remnants behind which causes issues).

Start - All Programs - Accessores - System Tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Advanced Tab - click Restore Advanced Settings and then click RESET - APPLY / OK

IE - Tools - Internet Options - Security Tab - click Reset all zones - APPLY / OK

Close and restart IE and/or IE with no addons

Start - All Programs - Accessores - System Tools - IE with no Addons - does this work better?

IE - Tools - Manage Addons (for sure disable SSV2 if it is there, this is no longer needed but Java still installs it
and it causes issues - you ever update Java go back in and disable it again.) Look for other possible problems.

Windows Defender - Tools - Software Explorer - look for issues with programs that do not look right.
Permitted
are usually OK and "not permitted" are not always bad.
If in doubt about a program ask about it here.

Could be a BHO - BHOremover - Free - standalone program, needs no install, download and run - not all
are bad however some can cause your issue.

If needed :

You can try an In-Place Upgrade (hopefully saves programs and data) or a repair installation (hopefully
saves data and will have to reinstall programs).
Be sure to do a good backup or three.

You can use another's DVD as they are not copy protected however you will need you own Product Key.

In-Place Upgrade

If nothing works you can do a repair installation which should save data however you will have to

reinstall programs.
This also requires the correct Vista disks especially for OEM versions.
You will
need to know your Product Code.
