Computer crashes with Windows Vista Update (KB980248), how to skip this update after reboot??
Hi, if anyone could help me with this I would be really grateful.
I have Windows Vista Home Edition running on my one-year old HP Pavilion dv5-1112ea laptop.
I installed a new update this morning, but when rebooting the entire computer froze as soon as my desktop appeared.
I didn't even get a blue screen, the cursor was
stuck in the centre of the screen and it wasn't responding to any keyboard prompts.
So eventually I turned it off with the button.
I tried to reboot the computer in safe mode - this got halfway through, then caused the computer to freeze with a plain black screen with no cursor or anything else showing.
So I turned it off with the button again and tried again.
This time I did it from the last known setting, or something like that (can't remember what it was called, sorry!) and it took me back to how my computer was just before the update.
It's working okay now BUT the install thing is still showing and if I turn
off my computer it's just going to install the update again and possibly crash my computer again.
As it's a very trivial update (something to do with updating fonts!) and it's only 'recommended' I want to know,
is there a way of skipping this update so I don't have this problem again?
I've already had a look around this forum and have managed to disable
new updates from happening unless I say-so, but this hasn't affected this one - it's appearing in
Security -> Windows update -> View update history
but NOT under "Installed Updates" so I can't uninstall it.
There's a symbol on the shut down key telling me that if my computer shuts down, it'll install the updates, which I seriously don't want.
So yeah, is there any way of skipping this update??? I need a functioning computer for uni work due in really soon, so please help.
