Download SmartPCFixer to Fix It (Free)

Hello Stormlaw,

Thank you for posting.

Besides changing your backup drive, what else have changed on the software side? I would suggest using the system restore tool to restore your PC back to when it was working fine.
For more information, see the link below
How does System Restore works?

If the issue remains after the above, I would suggest you run the
System File Checker to scan your system for corrupt system files and let Windows replace the corrupt files with Windows version
1.      Click
Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click
Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator.
2.      Click
Continue or supply Administrator credentials if prompted.
3.      In the
Command Prompt window type the following, and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
4.        When done, close the command prompt

To see the result of the SFC scan

1.  Click Start, click
All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and select
Run as Administrator
2.  In the elevated command prompt, type:
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt and press
Enter.
(See screenshot below)
This will place a sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop with the SFC scan details from the CBS.LOG.

3.
Close the elevated command prompt.

4.
Open the sfcdetails.txt file on your desktop to see the SFC scan details in the CBS.LOG.
Please post back your findings

Please post back your result.

Open Action Center by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking Control Panel, and then, under System and Security, clicking Review your computer's status.

Update and run your antivirus software. Windows doesn't come with antivirus software, but Action Center can often monitor the antivirus software that you or your computer manufacturer have installed.
