Alternate way to open .hlp files.

Hi,
 
I am facing a common problem that .hlp files are not running on 64 bit Windows 7 by default.
After downloading “winhlp32-windows-7-x86-x64-komeil” I have three files i.e.
Install.cmd, winhlp32.exe and winhlp32.exe.mui.
On executing Install.cmd I am able
to run .hlp files.

 
Please note that if we achieve the functionality by running the patch in this way then default Windows 7 behavior will be changed for .hlp files, rather I want a solution for my applications related hlp files.

I'm not sure it is really a default behavior that .hlp files from older programs are not able to run.  Lots of later .hlp files that are compatible with Windows 7 will run successfully.  It is the older non compatible .hlp files which are the problem.  Mind
you as I probably have that patch installed I cannot test or validate my last comment on this machine so I offer it as just my own opinion.
 
One solution you might like to look at is a Virtual Machine workaround where all your older programs are run under XP?

You must have Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate to run Windows XP Mode".    If you have an old XP CD (or other older Windows
CD)  available you can just download the Virtual Machine and skip the XP Mode download.
This covers the whole gambit of virtual machines in "Home" versions if you want to have a look at it.  Of course you will need a licensed copy of XP to install and  run in any of them (except XP Mode).

Using Windows troubleshooter:

• Click on Search on Charm bar and type Troubleshooting. Click on the very first option.
• A new window will open. Click View all from the left pane.
• Scroll down to the bottom and click on Windows update.
• Troubleshooter window for Windows update will pop up. Click on NEXT. It may ask you for administrative permission.
• The troubleshooter will automatically detect problems and fix it.
• Now, close this window and try download/install the app which was previously showing error.
