Best way to lookup & replace.

Hi,

Scenario:  I have a freight bill with column F showing the origin & destination of deliveries across all states (eg: Newark/Springfield).  In column
G I want Excel to read column
F & add a charge code.  The charge code is usually the state of the destination town.

As an example, the sheet would look something like this:
F                                                    
G
Newark/Springfield                    NY
New Jersey/Los Angeles         LA

There could be as many as 1,000 plus deliveries so column F can be made up of many variables albeit consistent.  My Excel experience is limited but I think the best way to do it is have a second sheet containing origin/destination details in column A & the
related charge code in column B.  I'm just not sure of the easiest/fastest way to link the 2nd sheet to column G ......
assuming a 2nd sheet is best way to do it.

I'm surprised you got not answer yet, Tom.
This does require a vlookup.
Here's how I do it.
Put your origins/destinations on the 2nd sheet, which you can later hide.
Select the 2 columns and give them a named range called "mytable".
Then to look up one of the cities, when the city is in B2:  =vlookup(b2,mytable,2,0)
The 0 makes it so it doesn't find a NEAR value, but only an exact value.
Now, what I'd do, too, is select all the cities on the 2nd sheet and give it a name "cities".
Then create a Data Validation on your home page that uses =cities as the list.
Then you should never have one that's not found.
