After installing Windows Pro upgrade 8 and Media Center pack on my laptop (Samsung RF510, seagate momentus XT 750Gb drive) I am completely shut out.

Windows 8 kept adding updates and never completed installing.
It constantly wanted to reinstall but seemed to stall and never complete the installation!

I am now faced with only the CHOOSE AN OPTION SCREEN and
preparing automatic repair
diagnosing PC

there was a problem refreshing PC cannot refresh
there was a problem while resetting your pc

SYSTEM RESTORE - no restore points have been created on your systems drive
SYSTEM IMAGE RECOVERY - windows cannot find a ststem image on this computer (I had a win 7 on it)
COMMAND PROMPT-sfc/scannow -windows resource protection could not start the repair service
START-UP OPTIONS: tried all 10 options without success

I popped my backup drive with windows 7 on it back in my laptop and have tested the drive with the Win8 upgrade in an external caddy and find it is performing without fault.
Further I can view all files and folders on it.

How can I recover this drive, it's applications, settings and files without going through a lengthy reinstall of win 7 and win 8 upgrade?
