Adobe Flash Player replacement Q??????

Need a replacement Flash Player if needed???? I have a Lenovo S10-3 Notebook.
I recently on the advise of friends got rid of Adobe Reader (resource hog?) and replaced it with Foxit..for opening up occasional PDF files.
I have heard many bad things about
Adobe Flash Player..don't know how true they are, but I was wondering if their is a safer, lighter good flash player out there, or is Adobe FP my on;y choice?  Thanks, Bill
